"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary.
In these times where we all seem to hurry to experience the very best next thing, it is so nice to remember Thoreau's words.
I also visited a heron rookery which was in the town of Concord. I have had a love affair with all things heron for a very long time. We have a heron sculpture at the end of our driveway. I frequently see herons while I walk along the canal tow path and I am in awe by their stillness and concentration. I photographed two immature herons that were waiting for their breakfast from their parents. If you would enjoy additional photos of a rookery there are some great images on this Audoubon website.
