Barrier Islands, South Carolina

loggerhead turtles
I recently visited Harbor Island in  South Carolina. It is one of the barrier islands off Charleston. We went as a family to celebrate our 30th wedding  anniversary. It was a spectacular island to visit. I don't think that I have ever been anywhere that had as much visible wild and marine life.  There were  350  pound Loggerhead turtles,
horseshoe crabs, dolphins,  brown pelicans, several kinds of jellyfish , a variety of sand crabs and  other sea birds. Most were visible on the beach during my early morning walks.  ALso, it was so apparent that nature was taking back the island and the animals were slowly reclaiming it. The beach was shifting by hundreds of yards and creating  a completely new shoreline. In the meantime, it was glorious being a witness to the natural beauty of the low country in South Carolina.
